A life lived without setting goals is not a life well lived. Too many of us are aimlessly floating through life not knowing what we want and where we are headed. Goal setting doesn't have to be seen as a daunting action but one that will enable you to take stock of your life and give you the push you need to move you from where you are now to where you want to be in a week, month or 1 year from now.
Here's my 3 reasons why you need to stop shying away from creating goals and choosing right now to make them your priority.
1. Will Help To Increase Your Discipline and Focus
Procrastination. That horrible 5 syllable word that really is the bane of many a good woman's life. So many of us get torn between getting up and setting out to do all the thing we intend to do. However, get sidetracked by the television and the sofa as soon as we walk through the front door and the end of our working day. Setting goals on paper and reading them regularly will act as a daily reminder to you that you have things you need to actively be pursuing.
It is one thing to state you intentions and say out loud from time to time what you have to do and achieve. However, writing them down not only makes them more concrete but also solidifies your intentions. The action of writing makes it clear in your conscience mind that you have a number of objectives to achieve and creates a contractual agreement with yourself that you have to review and complete it. The more times you review you list of goals, the more you will feel more compelled to take steps to ticking them off and completing them.
2. Will give your life direction
Imagine getting onto a bus but having no set destination in mind. You will end up driving around for hours with no plan and no where to go. Day to day life can quite quickly become like an endless bus journey when we fail to decide on a clear destination and plan our route to get to it. Setting manageable goals for both your personal and professional life will ensure that you never float around aimlessly but instead live day to day with purposeful and deliberate intentions.
3. Boost Your Confidence
Think about how good you will feel when you begin to start ticking off and achieving some of the goals you have written down. Imagine how encouraged you will feel. The action of ticking off your goals will provide you with a much needed confidence boost and will give you a positive point to refer back to each time you become complacent or want to give up.
Making goals and reviewing them regularly will ensure you remain accountable for your time and the manner in which you use it. The more you review your goals and work towards achieving them, the closer you will become to making permanent and positive changes in your life.
